Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest

(Formerly Limerick Institute of Technology)

TUS was formerly known as Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) which was dissolved at midnight on the 30th of September 2021, to become the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS): Midlands Midwest following merger with another Irish higher education Institution.

TUS provides three cycle system education, training, and research, playing a pivotal role in the economic and sociocultural development of the regions with a distinctive educational philosophy of active learning throughout its programmes, in all disciplines and at all levels ensuring that it stays firmly in touch with the needs of industry and the community in the regions it serves. TUS has an international reputation for developing and implementing innovative Library, Information Literacy (IL) and Academic Writing products and services through its Library and Information Resources Centre and has both led and participated in ERASMUS+, Tempus, CBHE projects dealing with the Library, Information Literacy and Academic Writing fields. TUS has almost 14,000 students attending and over 1200 members of staff, offering courses across the 3-cycle system in the Art and Design, Applied Science, Engineering and Technology as well as the Business and Humanities and other fields.

Padraig Kirby BA (Hons), HdipLIS, MSc LIS is Research Development and Innovation Project Officer at Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland and is Project Coordinator of the IPEDU project. He is a librarian by profession and holds the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Limerick; he has also a Higher Diploma in Library and Information Studies from University College Dublin. Padraig also holds a Master of Science in Information and Library Studies from Robert Gordon University in the United Kingdom.

He is Coordinator of a number of major EU funded Library projects in the Library and Information Science field. This has involved day-to-day coordination of international projects involving partners across many countries and regions of the world focussed on areas such as Library Modernisation and Reform, Information Literacy, 3D Printing, Intellectual Property and across a range of other fields.
