As a comprehensive public Central European university, UNIZG offers education programs in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences) and a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, for more than 70,000 students.

Being one of the constituent units of UNIZG, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest higher education institution in Croatia which carries out research activities and executes university programs in the field of humanities and social sciences, as well as a significant cultural institution with a great impact on Croatian culture and society. Today it offers more than 100 BA and MA programs as well as 19 PhD programs. FHSS, was one of the pioneers in implementing e-learning at the HE level with more than 2400 e-learning courses in 2019.

The team involved in DIGITOOLS has experiences in curriculum development in the field of information and communication science and business administration, and has been involved in many continuing education/lifelong learning initiatives of information professionals. The team has not only a research track but also expertise in developing digital learning tools and teaching materials in different niches of information and communication. Members have participated in developing teaching tools MOOCs within national E-school projects as well as implementing e-learning at the other institution on national and international level.

Ph.D. Mihaela Banek Zorica is full professor at the Department of the Information and Communication sciences and a Chair of Media and Communication Section. Her expertise is in e-learning, information literacy and knowledge organization and management. Her teaching is focused on developing teaching materials for e-learning systems as well as building competences for teaching in e-learning. Her expertise in e-learning and media usage was also seen during running an Erasmus IP on „Information and communication technology in supporting the educational process “. The program gathered students and professors from four countries. She is one of the faculty representatives for e-learning at the University of Zagreb Computing center.  In 2011, she has received University of Zagreb award for E-learning implementation in teaching.
